MOHAWK SMARTSTRAND WITH DUPONT SORONA GETS TOUGHNESS TEST AT

FAMILY CIRCLE CUP TENNIS TOURNAMENT

DALTON (April 12, 2010)—Can SmartStrand^® with DuPont™ Sorona^® carpet handle 90,000 people in just eight days?  Mohawk is putting SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona to the test again--at one of the most visible sporting events in the nation.

From April 10-18, Mohawk is participating in this year’s Family Circle Cup Women’s Tennis Tournament, held in Charleston and Daniel Island, SC.  One of the richest and most traditional events in women’s professional tennis, the Family Circle Cup attracts more than 90,000 people to watch many of the world’s best players, including Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Mohawk will demonstrate the durability of SmartStrand carpet made with DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer by carpeting the stadium entrance and exit walkways, subjecting it tremendous foot traffic and soiling over the course the week.

Each night, the SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet will be cleaned (except for one strip, which will be used to show the soil accumulated) to showcase the high-traffic resiliency and the stain protection that doesn't wear off.

And throughout the week, Mohawk will be providing website, Twitter, and Facebook updates about the tournament and the performance of SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet.

During the tournament, fans and spectators can visit a Mohawk exhibit booth featuring SmartStrand Sorona on sponsors row. In addition to information and plenty of SmartStrand to touch, Mohawk will be offering giveaways and special events throughout the week.

On Wednesday, April 14th, Mohawk presents Mohawk Family Night taking place on the Grand Lawn. Mohawk will treat kids 16 and under to free admission when accompanied by an adult.  HGTV Contractor and Mohawk Handyman Chip Wade will help ring in a night of fun and family-friendly activity.  Events from 4-7 pm include the “Mess-Makers Challenge,” with events like “Bowling for Disaster,” “Red Punch Relay,” and “Balloon Toss” with mustard filled balloons. All activities will take place on SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet and are expected to leave a spectacular mess to clean up. 

After the events, Chip Wade will lead an on-site clean-up of this very same SmartStrand carpet, to prove just how remarkable it is.
