MOHAWK PROVIDES “SIGNATURE” MOMENT AT SAVEUR BBQ

DALTON (July 1, 2010)—In what has become one of the most flavorful culinary gatherings all year, Saveur magazine hosted its first annual Summer BBQ,  featuring an amazing collection of celebrity chefs—and a unique “signature” moment provided by Mohawk’s SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet.

On the first day of summer, fifteen of the nation’s best chefs created unique dishes for an invitation-only group of journalists, celebrities, and others at Manhattan’s Pier 66 as Saveur kicked off its first annual summer celebration.  Diners feasted on culinary creations ranging from roast suckling pig tacos to grilled Montauk squid with Thai basil salad.

But the food wasn’t the only thing getting attention.  Mohawk’s SmartStrand carpet with DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer was a highlight of the event, because the celebrity chefs and others signed their names on carpet swatches—in ketchup, mustard, and BBQ sauce—to demonstrate the permanent, built-in stain resistance of the product.

“It was great fun,” noted David Duncan, Vice President of Marketing for Mohawk.  “All their lives, people have been told to be careful and not drop anything on the carpet, and here we were, giving them some of the toughest stains imaginable and telling them to do their worst.  It really drives home the point that SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona can handle even the messiest families.”

The remarkable softness of SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona was also evident.  Before the end of the evening, there were more people sitting on the carpet than on the furniture provided, relaxing and thoroughly enjoying the picnic atmosphere provided.
