First Time A Carpet Showcased

DALTON (October 5, 2009)—Mohawk’s SmartStrand^® Carpet made with DuPont™ Sorona^® renewably sourced polymer just cleaned up on national television.  The product was featured on The Martha Stewart Show—demonstrating that even red wine wouldn’t stain it.

This is the first time a carpet has earned a feature segment on the nationally syndicated show, which covers more than 90 percent of the United States and reaches more than four million viewers per week. 

SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona was featured as a "Martha Find." In the segment, Martha touted the product’s availability in a collection of beautifully crafted styles, available in hundreds of colors that provides performance benefits not seen in any other carpets.

In fact, Martha stressed the fact that she has hesitated serving red wine at some parties because of fears of spills and stains.  She then showed the audience that SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona has the stain resistance to eliminate that worry—by pouring red wine on a sample and then removing it with plain warm water.    

The studio audience also got a bonus from Mohawk—each member was given a 9’ x 6’ area rug constructed of SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet.

The show became interested in SmartStrand made with DuPont Sorona carpet for its stain resistance and durability.  Mohawk recently finished a remarkable test with the carpet—placing it in the enclosure of Ricko, a 2,800 lb. Black Rhino at The Birmingham Zoo for two weeks.  Ricko conducted his daily business on the carpet, leaving it incredibly soiled.  After the test, the carpet was removed and professionally cleaned, which restored it to its original new look.
